A Few Promos I've Been Listening Too...

Don't really like posting free downloads too often as I find there are ample outlets already available for them, but all the same there are a few recent ones I want to share with you..

Tune Of The Week: Guido - Mad Sax

Ruff Sqwad's Love You Feel meets G Dub's Jezebel in this fabulous saxophone attack from Bristol's very own Guido. I was none the wiser as to who the young producer/Dj was just a few months ago until someone reccomended I download his '29 Minute Mix', and since then I've enjoyed hearing quite a few of his beats; the one featured in this blog title being an instant favourite.

Mad Sax is featured in the aforementioned mix which is where my initial hearing of the masterpiece took place, admittedly I had forgotten all about it until DJ Spyro dropped this mix on his new MixCloud.

Taken from his forthcoming album debut 'Anidea', Guido hints at matchmaking the sounds of Electronics and live instrumentation together culminating in a colourful arrangement of sounds. Check the tune being dropped LIVE at Trinity Hall below.

Just like Joker and Gemmy (both also Bristol based) before him, Guido is a Dubstep producer who utilises Grime sounds and often speeds to great affect.

Doorly's Stolen The Show, But Get Will To Number 1 !

Wiley's back on his commercial grind after Wearing My Rolex hovered dangerously close to Number 1, and as much as I appreciated See Clear Now musically, it never really took off did it !? Race Against Time for me is 2009's best CD. It shows Wiley at his very best over a blend of disgusting production from Maniac, Bless Beats and Danny Weed among others.

 People are still hanging on for The Illusive, but since the signing of contacts between Will and Island the grimey promise of the album seems lost. So we're left with this: Take That. I like the track, it's energetic, it's live, it's in your face. Chew Fu's productions suit the club scene well with the rapid patterns mixed with Wiley's emphatic vocals, the extended mix is a thing of beauty.

 I sure do hope Wiley gets to the top of the charts like Dizzee and Tinchy before him, I prefer this effort to Wearing My Rolex, but it's Doorly's marvellous Dubstep shenanigans that impress me. The bass on Track 4 is just absolutely obscene. Disgusting. Dirty. Speaker-Raping. The 3 way-crew remix is disappointing, Scratchy impresses though. BUY NOW AND GET WILEY TO NUMBER ONE.

Breakage - Hard (Single - Digital Soundboy)

Breakage is a producer who of very recent times, could be held responsible for some of the best tunes about. On their previous EP Together/Rain, Rain is a laid back low-bass anthem, which appropriately goes down well when your doing coursework on a dimly lit computer desk, at 1 AM on a rainy Sunday. Together saw a link-up with legendary Dancehall/Reggae David Roddigan, but that was only the instrumental to what we've got on today's release, Hard.

Breakage has found form on his 140 BPM beats, the drum patterns on these are intense; sly snares at the start of this melody blend well into hard pulsing drum patterns, and immense synths intensify the song, particulary during the hook. It's reminiscent to something I heard on Tubby's show a while ago (I didn't catch any track details), D Double E and Footsie bring something of an old school vibe in their part of the bargain.

The release also comes with a remix from The Dub Police's Caspa, which strays none to far from the original with some typical Dubstep sounding bass thrown in. Plans for a Breakage album sound exciting - a definite must buy. For now, head over to Boomkat and grab this.

This is a grime blog for those of you who may have missed any clues. I'm appreciative of many more musical sounds, it's just Grime is my 1st love and actually what I know most about. Long story short: I'm blogging something that's not all that Grime. It's bassy, but it ain't grime.

Kano - Rock N Roller Review

Why have you done this to us Kane ? WHY ??? What happened to having P's and Q's, getting reloads, mic fighting and pum pum spitting ? Those were the days. These ain't.

The original mix is a sad state of affairs. Whilst effort seems to have been genuinely put in on the production, riddling it back to front with auto-tune wasn't a smart move and if he (Kano) had stuck to the way in which he went in on the final verse (actually spitting, rather well) then I'm positive I would've found comfort within the tune. My opinion emulates on the remix further, Chipmunk took FULL liberties and proceeded to ruin the tune, which was opened rather nicely by none of then Devlin. "I'll lay a bet on the next to blow-'cos as well as aving septic flows-I'm white like December snow". The white boy from dagger could've done with a longer verse to be honest, it's good to see him working with someone of Kano's calibre (which is sadly ironic seeing as I'm informing you all of how shit his new single is) and London City the single is landing soon.

It's worldwide producer Starkey who manages to give a fantastic yet slightly thin thread of hope for the song, his remix incorporates a much grimier and fitting sound with his electronic bass-perfection. Check some more of his genius on ReverbNation. 

If it wasn't for iTunes brilliant buy-what-you-want-and-not-what-you're-force-fed-by-CD-outlets-feature, then I wouldn't have attempted to purchase anything from this single.
