GRIME: 1/4 way through 2010...

Did you know that the actual size of Easter Eggs have shrunk alarmingly at a rate of 44% in the last 5 years. A food related catastrophe of that magnitude is causing trauma for my brain cells, so naturally I would need something else to take comfort in...of course. Grime.

The year started off well with an abundance of free downloads from the likes of Dogzilla, Lee Brasco, Desperado and many more...like a lazy cunt I'll direct you over to http://www.blimeyworld.net/PromoSpot/ where pretty much any free download going can be found. If you're after the best ones from this year so far then look out for Deeperman's Get To Know Me Vol.1, Tinchy Stryder's Before The Storm, Jammz' What's The Latest and also Splurt's Vomit Vol.1. Logan Sama teamed up with the guys down at Palladium to bring you the Still Keepin It Grimy mixtape featuring new material from OG's, Ghetto, Little Nasty and more download that here. The free-ness just hasn't stopped flowing so keep your eyes peeled for much much more in the next few months.

On the airwaves the early weeks were dominated by the OG's on Rinse FM, DJ Big Beatz from OT put on some good shows as did Smallz and Scope. As the ever-enlarging-grime-lens focused more on pirate radio than ever with Logan Sama's Monday night show on Kiss FM being cut down to a fucking ridiculous one hour, each and every set became more and more disappointing. It's not fault of Logan himself, in fact on one Friday night kiss were generous enough to air a 2 hour grime special featuring 4 pre-recorded sets from OG's, Bloodline, OT/360 and Newham Generals. Here are some fucking stellar sets to download:
Elsewhere I'm sure the most talked about news was the on-going fisticuffs between P Money and Ghetts. After Ghetts ever so in-directly sent for P on Logan's last set of 2009, and the (now)infamous Shark Attack Remix the two have been firing shots at each other wonderfully. Firstly, these two GrimeDaily video's emerged:

And then something inside of Ghetts' head must've clicked and we were treated to the best war report since 2006. http://www.mediafire.com/?czoykjmy0vt is YOU if you want all the dubs, CD quality.
Ghetts - All Black Winter
Ghetts Vs Ghetto - Suicide
P Money - The Dub
P Money - The Warning
Ghetts - The Destruction Of The Eiffel Tower

Release wise, I feel the year has started promisingly with quite a few vocal and instrumental releases, Tinie Tempah went Number One for two weeks running with his club-raper Pass Out. A good look for grime, possibly, who knows ? All the purchaseable material is listed below, get your wallets out (or rather your Bank cards, with the closure of popular shop Rhythm Division it's not long before others follow suit).

Mixtapes/Albums/Vocal EP's
Skepta - Been There Done That (Reviewed by me for Grimedaily here).
Styler - Off To Work EP (Catch my interview with Styler here).
Killa P - Credit Crunch Volume 2
Paper Pablo - Money Talks
Rowntree - Out Of Reach
Trim - Trim City
Sharky Major - Shark Attack EP
Swindle - Who Said Funk EP

Singles
Wiley - Never Be Your Woman
JME - Sidetracked (Featuring Wiley)
Jammer - Better Than
Skepta - Bad Boy

Instrumental CD/Vinyl

Terror Danjah - Acid/ProPlus (Reviewed that over here).
SNK - Midi Master EP (Interview with SNK here).
Teeza - The Secret Level EP
Wiley - Instrumentals 1: The Eskibeats
Terror Danjah - Bipolar EP

In the next few months you can expect these sort of releases:
Swindle - Airmiles EP.
Badness - Nightmare (Featuring Skepta & Lil Narstie) plus remixes.
Rossi B & Luca - E10 Riddim (Featuring Killa P).
Various - Supa Dupa 2010 (Featuring tunes from Tempa T, Newham Generals and more).
Joker - Tron (More dubstep-like but many a DJ have been spinning it).
Maveric - The Storm (Mix CD)
Plus much more...
Send it out to all the other people doing big things - Elijah & Skilliam, Risky, Outakers, Logan Sama, SB, Blimey, Chantelle Fiddy, Spooky DJ and Geo. Also shouts K Mag who have now got a grime section up and running which you can read here. Further shouts (I'm babbling I know) to Matt B @ BNTL and Lakey from Back Of The Q.
I'll leave you with this.

Devlin + Island Records = Good For Grime

I love Grime, I think that's pretty obvious. I'm not the only one though, because the rate at which Island Records are going, they're won't be many unsigned Grime artists left !

They've signed Wiley and Tinchy Stryder...and now Devlin is the latest act on the popular label which, since the late 1950's has rostered acts such as Eric B & Rakim, Bob Marley, Mika, The Sugababes and many more.

The news comes as a big boost to all parties involved, none least than the young MC's crew, Outakers. With their status as one of Grime's earliest formed collectives, it's smiles all round. "It's a big deal for the whole camp" said the crews manager, Mikee. Devlin being signed will bring the profile of the crew up a few levels !"

Perhaps Island's most notorious movement of late is taking one of Grime's finest young artists in Tinchy Stryder - and transforming him from an MC who once tore down raves such as Eskimo Dance and Sidewinder to a number one selling artist. Devlin's been a part of the scene for a while now, ever since 2006's Tales From The Crypt featuring classics such as Take Me Away, Reality Is Sinister and the original to the track below; Community Outcast..

Of course it's only fair that the long-adoring grime fan would be worried about Devlin's next step musically, but to be fair, Stryder still maintains contact with the Grime scene despite his ever-soaring status. OT's manager spoke with me about this "He wont be neglecting the scene. He knows where he comes from. He'll still be making the same kind of music. I don't think many can see Devlin dancing about with a big gold chain talking love (Laughs)"

It seems that Island is the best label for taking the young talent and making them big, and O.T had mentioned on there site that there was a lot of competition from other major's, so why was Island the choice ?

"For me it was the fact that Island seemed to understand Devlin better than the others and we agreed on the direction he should go in." Mikee told me yesterday. With that taken into consideration, the move can only be described as marvellous, best wishes to Devlin and his on-going journey..

For all the latest on Devlin and the rest of the Outakers, head over to Outakers.com now !

R.I.P LEON FERDINAND

It is of great regret to inform you that today, Leon Ferdinand, more commonly know to some as the MC Nu Era/N.E has passed away. I had the pleasure of meeting the guy on more than one occasion, he will be missed sorely by many, my thoughts go out to those. You may know him for his roles in legendary crew Essentials, or more recently for his activities with OG's. Below is some of my favourite material from the man himself, once again my thoughts go out.

End Of The 00's.........

I had to blog something. I've got reviews coming shortly for CD's from Blacks, Scorcher, Flow Dan, Untitled plus more including interviews with former O.T producer Rachet, Roll Deep MC Brazen and promising up and comer REC. Until then however, I got thinking.

Thinking that not only are we approaching the end of the year, it's actually the end of a decade. The Noughties played Mum and Dad to the sucess of many UK artists, including the likes of Craig David, The Streets and So Solid Crew, but it's more the birth of Grime I'm interested in. No one knows exactly when it started, likewise with which particular tune but when it did emerge - who really knew what it was ?? The immediate reaction to the genre's electronic, updated-rap-sound was to connotate it with the already worn out and dying 2-step Garage sound, even since then producers have been accused of "biting" sounds from the likes of Bassline, Dubstep and even early 90's Jungle/Drum N Bass.

All of the aforementioned genres can be heard being played on one of the leading pirate radio stations about today - Rinse FM. 15 years of age only recently, the station has helped push Grime on the way to where it is now, with artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk and (nearly) Wiley topping national charts and having music spun on daytime Radio 1, as opposed to Rinse, Heat and Major FM being their desired target stations.

There is a point to this article, over the coming week or so, I'll be revealing the 10 CD's which I feel are the best Grime CD's to come from this decade of pure madness. Quick note: So yes, essentially the 10 best grime CD's of all time.

Tommorow I'll be revealing probably the most obvious choice CD, featuring a one superstar MC from Bow. What are your favourite CD's ?? Let me know - SAFE.

Sharky Major - Shark Attack Remix *WAR*

Big up Morris of the Grimforum users, he kindly ripped this tune from tonights edition of Logan Sama's weekly grime dosage. Sharky Major recently made his return to the scene, and "Shark Attack" is taken from the new mixtape "Major League", this track is the official remix with Skepta on the production.
Sharky Major - Sharks Attack Remix (Feat. Devlin, P Money, Ghetts & Dot Rotten)

This is one of them -holy-cow-get-the-batmobile-robin moments. This is GONE.COM/IN-DIE-ARE'SALLOVERTHEGAFFE. Devlin is easily a top ten MC. He's levels above a lot of them out there. He's up 1st and does nothing less than murder the verse back to front, with the witty and syllable-raped lines that have come to make him over the years. Of course the Major couldn't  be out-shined on his own musical brilliance, but these two have only been the pre-match fighters. The Main Event is upon us now, P Money's up first.

"Skniny Sorts wanna talk on YouTube"
"I Don't Care What SHE LIKES man can't say I'm not TOP 10 in ENGLAND"
"Wanna BE COOL then keep your distance"

***Break*** Dot Rotten babbles on. He upped the levels on S.O.O.N, didn't appreciate his contribution on this tune. Back to importan stuff, Ghetts is now on the microphone. Hmmmm. I wonder if he'll adress any outstanding situations.

"He's sending he's sending he can't stop sending, oh is that the best you've got ?"
"Just 'cos you say Ghetts a lot don;t mean you can stand up next to god"
"Everyone's got their money on the under dog I wonder what sent them all to his side ?"

AND I thought I was being over-paranoid at forst but this has to be a send for Chipmunk surely ??!?!?!!

"If my mans FIRE I'm water ALIE, normally I'd get caught in a hype but right now I'm going NUMBER 1 so a hits the only thought in m mind".

Enjoy. I certainly did.
